Aston Fields Middle School at Powergen Cup Final

Aston Fields Middle School put in a match winning performance against Powick C of E Middle School on Friday in the Powergen National Community TAG Rugby Final in front of a capacity crowd at Sixways.

.
The match was the pinnacle of a successful 13 week programme delivered by the Warriors Community Team giving over 2000 children the opportunity to play TAG rugby in a controlled and exciting learning environment, and was played on the centre stage before the England U21 v Ireland U21 match took place.  Aston Fields Middle School saw off their rivals by scoring ten tries to nine in a tense and thrilling final to book their place to play at Twickenham on the day of the Powergen Cup Final.

Aston Fields Middle School will fly the flag for Worcestershire as they run out in front of a 70,000 strong crowd during the half-time break of the Powergen Cup final. They will go head to head against a school representing another premiership club utilising the skills and techniques learnt from the Warriors Community Coaching Team.

Matt Sherratt, Worcester Warriors Community Development Officer said: “The PNCP final was a great way to end an extremely successful Powergen community programme.  Both teams enjoyed the experience of playing in front of a packed Sixways and were given a fantastic reception by the crowd both during the game and on their lap of honour. Our congratulations go to both finalists for producing a final of such quality that a try was scored every thirty seconds. We now look forward to seeing Aston Fields competing at Twickenham during half time of the Powergen cup final.”
