Confident Warriors determined to sink Bath

Worcester Warriors are preparing for Saturday’s Guinness Premiership trip to Bath with the confidence of a squad that knows it could already have claimed the prized scalp of champions Sale.

Successive defeats have strengthened the Sixways resolve that four points – and a performance to savour – is just around the corner.
“We’re going down there with the aim of walking away with a win,” says head coach Anthony Eddy. “It’s a very hard task, but I believe we have a team that can beat Bath on their home ground.”
He expects Bath to be placing great emphasis on the game, after their start to the season was halted by a big defeat at Northampton on Saturday.
“I don’t see too many weaknesses in Bath as a team,” Eddy says. “They base a lot of their game on a strong and dominant set piece similar to our own. It will be a good challenge for both sets of forwards to see who gets on top. The team that does that will be the team that’s successful on the day.”
Director of rugby John Brain will name the Warriors starting line-up on Friday for the game at The Rec after, among other things, weighing up the fitness of tight-head prop Chris Horsman – who has returned to training following a back injury that prevented him from facing Sale – and the option provided by hooker Aleki Lutui.
The Tongan played 40 minutes in the A team’s 33-0 defeat of Leeds on Monday night and, says Eddy, “played very well”.
“There’s obviously still a bit of disappointment that we didn’t get the win that we perhaps should have in Newcastle, or a bonus point of even a win against Sale. The boys are still pretty confident in what we’ve done in the past 10 weeks. They’re confident that the win and the performance isn’t too far away.”
