Time to work hard, not panic – Eddy

Hard work, not panic, will be the foundation of Warriors’ renewed bid to dig themselves out of the Guinness Premiership basement.

That is the clear message from the Sixways dressing room after Saturday’s 40-21 defeat at the hands of Leicester Tigers.
Warriors enjoyed a bright opening five minutes, then struggled to execute well as the home side piled on pressure in the first-half display and trailed 30-0 after 50 minutes. But then they staged a ferocious second-half comeback before street-wise Tigers closed out the match in clinical style.
The sixth defeat of the season – four of them against top-four sides – gives Saturday’s home clash with fellow strugglers Northampton Saints added importance.
Head coach Anthony Eddy is aware that the team will need to find the fire and passion that pinned Tigers in their own 22 for long periods of the second half, and eliminate the errors of execution that, effectively, consigned them to defeat before half-time at Welford Road.
“It was a disappointing day, particularly the first-half,” he admitted. “During that period we lost the game. It was difficult because we couldn’t execute anything and our defence was under enormous pressure. Our set-piece struggled and they captalised on their game plan. In the second half, we put Leicester under pressure, but we’re bitterly disappointed that we didn’t perform.”
A big travelling support provided noisy backing throughout the match, and the players are determined to repay the dedication.
“There’s a long, long way to go this season,” Eddy added, ruling out new signings as a route out of the present difficulties. “We’ll take each game at a time, because it’s important to concentrate on what we have to do. There’s nothing wrong with the players. We’ll roll our sleeves up, get on with the job and make sure that everyone does it to the best of their ability.”
