TAG youngsters show great skill

The Warriors Community TAG Rugby programme for the north of the county drew to an exciting climax when the 15 schools from Kidderminster, Bromsgrove and Redditch came to Sixways for a coaching session and then pitted their skills against one another in the Sportsmatch tournament.

The first hour of the Friday, October 20, event saw Matt Sherratt – Warriors’ Rugby Development Officer – give the young boys and girls a coaching session and some last-minute tips before the tournament started.
Once under way, the tournament was a keenly-contested affair with all schools putting up a great show and scoring tries galore. The final was contested by Bromsgrove’s St John’s Middle School and Dingleside Middle, in Redditch.  After 10 minutes of end-to-end action, it was St Johns that ran out winners and who now have the opportunity of competing in the regional finals, to be held at Sixways at a later date.
“It became clear from watching this festival that the standard of play from all schools has improved dramatically since the Warriors community programme started,” Matt said. “All the schools involved had excellent individual and team work skills and showed a great understanding of the principles of the game.”
