Meet the stars, watch the action

Monday night rugby returns to the Sixways stadium pitch after a three-week break – with a treat for Warriors fans in advance of the action.

Thinus Delport, Thomas Lombard, Matt Powell, Lee Fortey, Chris Fortey and Nick Runciman are scheduled to join supporters from 6.30pm in the Clubhouse to sign autographs and chat before the A team takes on Sale Jets in a Northern Conference clash at 7.30pm.
Manager Andrew Stanley is planning a double over the opposition, after the U21 match between the two clubs produced a nail-biting 22-19 win for Worcester at the end of October, and rewarded a big Monday night crowd.
“A major part of the lads’ development is playing in front of a noisy crowd, and at Sixways we have one of the noisiest,” says assistant manager Gary Meechan. “It’s important for them to gain experience of the whole environment, playing on the stadium pitch and being close to the reaction of the spectators.
“Their level of enthusiasm and commitment against Sale in the U21 match was brought on by the crowd. The supporters had a bigger hand in us winning the game than they perhaps realise.”
The coaches are confident Sale will be bringing a strong, experienced squad down and are focussing on the lessons learned in the 47-17 defeat up in Sale, in September, rather than the win last month.
“Coming down and getting behind the young lads will be key to their performance on Monday,” he adds.
The team will be announced on the match day (November 20), after Stan and Meech have had the opportunity to consider the potential involvement of any first-team squad members, following Friday’s Guinness Premiership match against Harlequins.
On Wednesday, next week, the two will share the bill with Scott Quinnell at the supporters’ club Talk Rugby evening.

For games on the stadium pitch, entry is free to debenture, season ticket-holders and under 18s, £3 for adults – pay on the gate. For further details call the ticket office on 0870 990 5650.
