Academy starlets claim Sale crown

Warriors’ young stars showed the future is bright at Sixways by turning on the style to pick up some silverware bywinning the Sale 10s Tournament at Heywood Road.

Worcester took part in the five-team tournament that included hosts Sale Jets, Sale FC, Leeds and Nottingham on Sunday (April 15).
Warriors opened the event by claiming a 17-0 victory over Nottingham in the first game and then defeated Sale Jets 33-24 in a high scoring encounter.
A third 12-7 victory was wrapped up over Sale FC and although the side did finally taste defeat in the last clash with Leeds they had already done enough to claim the title.
Lee Douglas, Academy Coach, said: “We were delighted for the boys that they won the event and it was a great experience for them. Most of the players we took were Under-19s but the youngster was Under-16, that just shows the talent we have coming through at Sixways.
“By the time the final game came around we only had 12 players fit, after three in the squad picked up knocks, but it shows the spirit in the team that they all dug deep to keep going, some played all four games.
“It was a genuine test, with a very good standard of rugby throughout, and next up we are looking to compete in the Bristol Charity 10s tournament in April. I’m sure many of this squad will look to be involved again.”
