Pupils from two city schools got a surprise when they made a visit to the Warriors’ Playing for Success (PfS) Study Centre – the chance to get their hands on the Guinness Premiership trophy!
Students in Year Five from Cranham Primary School and Dines Green Primary School are in the third week of their Playing for Success course.
And when they were undertaking a stadium visit around Sixways to help produce a storyboard of their experience, with Centre Manager Glynn Lodge and Dan Grinnell, a Year 12 volunteer Study Supporter from Droitwich High School, they got more than they bargained for.
The Guinness Premiership trophy was making a guest appearance at Sixways for a photo shoot along with Leicester Tigers skipper Martin Corry and Gloucester captain Marco Bortolami ahead of the final between the two sides at Twickenham on Saturday.
And the children made sure they also got their hands on the silverware with a quick picture next to the coveted trophy.
The PfS Study Centre is one of the jewels in the crown of Warriors’ Community Development team’s contribution to the county and went live at the beginning of the Summer Term.
The Study Centre has been developed after a close partnership between Worcestershire County Council and Worcester Warriors. It has clearly-defined links with Worcestershire’s Education Development Plan and will work to firmly-set priorities, starting with raising achievement at Key Stage 2 and 3 levels, promoting inclusion, narrowing the achievement gap, and broadening perspectives.
It will support up to ten schools a term, meaning that around 120 students per term and 360 students annually will benefit. The Study Centre is housed at the rear of the South Stand at Sixways and has been kitted out with a superb corporate-style state-of-the-art learning environment that looks and feels as little like a classroom as possible. It boasts a secure reception area, an administration office, an ICT suite and teaching area, a meeting room, a multi-purpose room that acts as a soft working area, teaching room overspill area, and a student chill-out room and library.
