Warriors delight at AWM funding

Worcester Warriors are delighted to have been informed that Advantage West Midlands (AWM) has approved £2.5million funding to Worcestershire County Council for infrastructure work and a Park and Ride facility at Sixways.

This infrastructure development by the County Council, part of a wider programme of works to improve access around the county and to help ease congestion in the city centre, complements the plans of the Warriors to move forward with its own work, which includes the creation of a new North Stand and Esporta Gym and Racquet Club on site.

As part of an agreement with Worcestershire County Council, Worcester Warriors will be able to access and use the car parking facilities for all home Guinness Premiership home games next season. This will mean that on site parking at the Sixways club will be in excess of 1,200 spaces.

Improved access from Junction 6 of the M5 will also be created for the park and ride and travelling into the Sixways Conference Centre for local businesses will also be improved

The new infrastructure will include a three-lane road into Sixways, substantial new roundabout, development and improvements to Pershore Lane and an underpass allowing access to amateur pitches on new land that has been purchased by the club.

“This is another exciting step forward in the development of Sixways and we are delighted that AWM have shown their support for Worcestershire County Council and the Park and Ride infrastructure works,” said Charlie Little, Warriors General Manager.

“Work at Sixways this summer can now really move forward at pace and I’m sure visitors are looking forward to the changing face of the site over the next few months.”

Nick Paul, Chairman at Advantage West Midlands, said: “Not only will the new park and ride facility reduce congestion in the city centre, it will reduce carbon emissions and improve road safety.  The city should also receive an economic boost of at least £3 million a year due to the number of passengers the new park and ride should attract.

“This is the latest investment by Advantage West Midlands into the wider regeneration of Worcestershire and highlights our commitment to the area as a strategically important service centre.”
