Cornel hits the right note for Quo

An inspirational young drummer who was born with no lower arms is set to swap playing tips with rock legends Status Quo after being given a dream ticket to Sixways Live ’07.

Cornel Hrisca-Munn, 15, who also had his leg amputated as a baby, will get the chance to chat to band members at the concert at home of the Warriors on Saturday, July 28.
The remarkable Romanian-born teenager, who lives with his adoptive parents Ken and Doreen Munn in Whittington near Worcester, has inspired many people with his tale of strength through adversity that saw him win the Pride of Britain Child of Courage award in 2004.
He has raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes over the years, starting when he was just six, and has set up his own charity – The Cornel Rehabilitation Centre Trust – aiming to build a centre to support and provide artificial limbs for amputees in Romania.
Cornel even recently showcased his stunning musical skills by coming runner-up in the Young Drummer of the Year competition.
So we thought it was time he got a little something back by joining forces with local newspaper The Worcester Standard to given him tickets to the big summer spectacular and a special pass to meet The Quo.
“I couldn’t believe it when I heard – it’s going to be fantastic to meet them,” said Cornel, who is also able to play bass guitar.
“I’ve listened to a lot of their songs, they’ve got a great beat and I would really love to play along with them one day if I had the chance.”
Dan Zaltzman, head of marketing at Worcester Warriors, said Cornel had been an inspiration to everyone in the way he had ignored his disabilities to lead a successful life.
“He has shown outstanding perseverance against disability and his tireless work to raise funds for others facing severe handicap and hardship has shown a real Warrior spirit.
“When we read about his amazing achievement in coming runner-up in the National Drumming Competition we thought it would be great to invite him along to Sixways Live ’07 and give something back to someone who has given so much to others.
“Cornel and his family will get to enjoy the concert and he will be one of a select few on the night who get to meet The Quo. I’m sure the band is looking forward to meeting him and talking about his achievements.”
