Warriors to face Stourbridge local derby

Worcester Warriors can today confirm that they will face a derby clash with Stourbridge at Sixways as part of a spectacular rugby ‘Double Header’ on Saturday.

Warriors A were originally due to face London Irish A in the first of two games at Sixways with a 1pm kick off.

However, Irish informed the club this week that they would be unable to fulfil the ‘A’ fixture due to injuries suffered in last weekend’s pre-season trial match with Esher. Stourbridge have now agreed to step in and replace London Irish A.

Worcester Warriors will still face London Irish as scheduled in the first team game with a 4pm kick off.

“We’re disappointed that London Irish had to drop out of the A fixture due to injuries to their squad and we are indebted to Stourbridge for agreeing to play the fixture at short notice,” said Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock.

“London Irish had offered us the option of a 10-a-side game with uncontested scrums due to front row injuries and we considered this as an option.

“However, we preferred to play a 15-a-side game on our final weekend of pre-season games and therefore thank Stourbridge for providing meaningful opposition for us.”
