EDF Energy Festival a splash hit

The EDF Energy festival season kicked off at Sixways Stadium on Tuesday, October 16 with the Warriors hosting Primary Schools from Kidderminster & Stourport.

The schools had recently completed a Tag Rugby programme run by the Warriors community staff. The schools were split into two groups of five teams; unfortunately St Bartholomews late withdrawal reduced their group to four teams. The afternoon kicked off in fine weather with Burlish Park tackling the Hartlebury Warriors and Lickhill entertaining Franche.

Unfortunately after a couple of games the weather started to deteriorate. However, despite the worsening conditions the enthusiasm and general skill levels were exceptionally high, with a number of matches going down to the wire. In fact tries scored had to be used in both groups to separate the teams and determine who had made the semi-finals.

Semi-final number one was an all Hartlebury affair which was finally settled in the favour of the Hartlebury Warriors despite a courageous effort from the Elves. The other semi-final was an equally tense affair with Stourport side Burlish Park finally overcoming Kidderminster debutants Holy Trinity.

Burlish Park and the Hartlebury Warriors will now meet on November 17 during the European Challenge Cup match between Warriors and French side Montauban at Sixways Stadium.

Remember to give both sides your enthusiastic support as they run onto the field at half-time.
