Tuitupou to make December return

Warriors have today confirmed that their new signing Sam Tuitupou is scheduled to make his first team debut in early December after successfully having surgery on a broken wrist.

New Zealand international Tuitupou, who has won nine caps for the All Blacks and signed a deal that will keep him at Sixways until 2010, suffered the injury as he captained Auckland to victory in the Air New Zealand Cup against Wellington.

The 25-year-old sustained a fractured left distal radius and has now been operated on by top New Zealand hand surgeon Chris Taylor.

Warriors have been in constant dialogue with Tuitupou’s medical team and are pleased to report that surgery was a complete success and the dynamic centre has begun his rehabilitation.

Tuitupou’s arrival in England has now been delayed until early November because of the nature of the injury to reduce the chances of swelling and complications while he is in plaster.

However, Director of Sports Medicine Brian Downey revealed the new recruit was keen to make the trip as soon as possible and start his Warriors career.

“We have been in constant contact with the medical team in New Zealand and it is all under control. We have spoken to the surgeon about his post operation rehabilitation and are confident he can return to action in December.

“Sam remains excited about his move to Sixways and has spoken to us of his desire to make the journey as soon as possible to join up with his new team-mates and continue his return to full fitness at Warriors.”

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock added: “We’re disappointed at Sam’s injury. I spoke to him the week before the Air New Zealand Cup final and he was incredibly enthusiastic about his move to Warriors, it’s just a shame that it’s been delayed a few weeks.

“However, we look forward to welcoming all our new signings in Sam, Greg Rawlinson and Rico Gear in the coming month. All have spoken of their excitement about the move and making a big impact at Warriors.”
