Windo takes on player/coach role

Worcester Warriors boss Mike Ruddock has revealed that veteran prop Tony Windo is to take on a player/coach role at Sixways Stadium for the remainder of the current season.

Director of Rugby Ruddock has stressed that Windo, the second oldest player in the Guinness Premiership and longest serving player at the club, remains in this thoughts for first team action.

However, the 38-year-old will also now help the next generation of Warriors with work in the Academy section so he can pass on his vast knowledge and experience.

“Tony is a model professional and a great example to any young players so we’re delighted he has agreed this role,” said Ruddock.

“His influence at the club over the many years he has been involved has been a very positive one and I’m sure that whenever he’s not playing for the senior team his experience will be most valuable to the younger players in the club’s Academy.

“He is in the last year of a contract with us and he may well play on, I’m not saying  he won’t. But he is the sort of character we want to keep here to develop a Leicester Tigers type of back-room.

“Tony agreeing to take on this role is a big boost and backs up the work we are trying to do by introducing a mentor system so that the senior players can pass on advice top the younger lads.”
