Warriors boss Mike Ruddock hailed the superb spirit in his side after they held off a fightback from Leicester Tigers to claim a sensational Guinness Premiership win.
Warriors were in dream land after tries from Greg Rawlinson, Marcel Garvey and Miles Benjamin put them in control against the Tigers.
But a late surge from Leicester saw them come back to within four points and cause Director of Rugby Ruddock a few anxious moments before the win saw secured.
“I did fear the worst when it got tight towards the end and letting it slip away would have been inexcusable,” he said.
“The nerves were jangling but up stepped the spirited Warriors and they held firm to get the result.
“We made a very poor start and it got a bit tight towards the end when it could have slipped away.
“We gifted them a try and we are going to check the rules and see if we can claim a bonus point – as we gave them a try. To go down and fight back was fantastic.
“The quality of their forward play was very good, it is always difficult against Leicester. But we scored three fantastic tries and our attacking lines were very effective.
“I thought we were outstanding and deserved the win. We went ten points clear and got a bit carried away, we went looking for more points and got a bit loose.
“But our courage and spirit at the end kept us going and I was delighted for the boys that they got the win that they deserved for all the effort they put in.”
Ruddock was full of praise for the home crowd who cheered Warriors to glory and a win that moves them away from the foot of the Guinness Premiership.
“The crowd were fantastic throughout the game, we haven’t given the crowd a huge amount to shout about but they were really with us for every minute of that game,” he said.
“The performance at Sale was pretty special but this was very good too. Leicester are a difficult side to beat. They don’t make many mistakes and you have to play well to score points against them.
“The margins have been very tight this season, thankfully we had built up confidence from last week. When we were losing games earlier in the season it might have been a different story when Leicester went 7-0 up so soon. Now there is more belief about us and what we are doing.
“What we have tried to do is try to get the team to play with more width and ambition at times. Fruits of labour with three fantastic tries, real top draw when you consider the opposition. It got tight towards the end but we held strong.”
Ruddock also heaped praise on Shane Drahm who set up all three tries as he continues his stunning return to first team action.
“Shane performed very well. He was outstanding at Sale and played very well against Tigers. He wants to go out with a bang,” he added.
“We outscored the opposition 3-1 and that trend has happened for three games now. All the work we have been putting in is paying off now and I was delighted for the boys to get such a big win.”
