Prop star Morris pens new Warriors deal

Worcester Warriors are delighted to announce that highly rated powerhouse prop Darren Morris has committed his future to the club by signing a new two-year deal.

Morris joined Warriors from Leicester Tigers at the end of the 2006 season and has quickly established himself as an integral part of the front row at Sixways Stadium.

The 33-year-old boasts a wealth of experience having made his Wales debut in June 1998 against Zimbabwe. He toured Australia with the British and Irish Lions in 2001 and so far he has made 44 appearances for the Warriors.

Director of Rugby, Mike Ruddock, said: “I am pleased that Darren has committed himself to the club for the next two years.

“He is a very experienced prop having won 18 caps for Wales and has also played for British and Irish Lions. Darren also has huge experience in the Guinness Premiership and his performances this season have been out of the top draw.

“I actually think Darren has played better than I have seen him play for a long time this season and he seems to be enjoying the style of rugby that we’re trying to promote. Hopefully that will continue to bring the best out of him over the next two years.”

Morris is currently ruled out with a bicep injury and will go under the knife this weekend. But he has vowed to return better than ever next season to make his mark.

“I’m really pleased to have signed up, it was always the right decision for me to stay,” he said. “These are exciting times at Warriors and that was a big incentive to agree a deal. It’s a fabulous club to be a part of with great supporters.

“I have been very happy with my form this season – it has been right up there. I have been consistent in games and although the injury now is frustrating I will come back better than before.

“What has been key to my form is my enjoyment. This year I have really enjoyed being a Warrior and the environment around the club. Next year is a big season for us and I can hardly wait to play my part in a successful future for the club.”
