Tevita calls for fanpower in semi-final

Powerhouse prop Tevita Taumoepeau has revealed his delight at his relationship with the supporters at Warriors – and urged the home fans to crank up the volume in tonight’s European Challenge Cup semi-final with Newcastle Falcons (kick-off 8pm).

Scrum star Taumoepeau – often known as Dave around the club to team-mates and fans – is a hugely respected and much loved member of the Warriors squad.

The prop, who has been a rock for Warriors this season, has become a cult figure for supporters and admits he loves the relationship he has with the Sixways faithful.

And now the 33-year-old wants the home support to turn up the volume tonight and make the European clash a special occasion for Warriors.

“The support here is just lovely – I love them all. I love the home games and all our fans, they are so big for me,” said Tevita, speaking to The Warrior matchday programme.

“We have always got on really well and they have backed me, it is very important that they support me. Before the game and after the game they always say nice things to me. Sometimes we lose but they are still behind us, they always say ‘maybe next week Tevita, we look forward to cheering you’ and I tell them I look forward to playing for them.

“They often stop me in the street and that makes me so happy. In town they will come over and say hello. I am quite recognisable person I guess, I cannot be missed. It can be hard for me because my English is not so great but I have to stop and say thank you It is good to meet them and sign autographs.

“Our fans will have a big role to play against Newcastle. We want to make a final for them and I hope they will be very noisy and really get behind the team. With them right behind us we can make the final we want.”

Taumoepeau also reveals his dreams of European glory, why he signed a new deal and his love of fishing all in tonight’s ‘The Warrior’ matchday programme. Programmes are available from sellers across the stadium complex on match nights priced at £3.
