Premiership Touch Rugby with Warriors

Premiership Touch Rugby today opened for registrations on www.touchrugby.co.uk and announced the venues for the 2008 season running from May to August – with Warriors running events at Sixways and Droitwich.

The extended venues for this year will see leagues taking place at rugby clubs throughout England from May to August with some leagues at the actual Guinness Premiership club grounds.

The growth of Premiership Touch Rugby has been phenomenal and this year’s programme expects to see over 1,000 teams and 12,000 participants at venues across England, the biggest touch rugby tournament of its kind.

Men and women of all ages and abilities can take part in mixed sex leagues. Men’s, women’s and veteran’s leagues may also be made available subject to demand.

In addition to these venues, this year sees regional finals taking place to choose the very best teams across England to compete for the chance to be crowned Premiership Touch Rugby Champions of England at Twickenham Stadium which was in fact won by Droitwich Nomads on the same day the Warriors made an Orange impact in the Middlesex 7’s.

The growth of Premiership Touch Rugby has been successful in spreading the popularity of the game of rugby.  Its non contact nature, social aspect, and low-time commitment have made it appealing to men and women who have work, family and social commitments but who enjoy exercising in a social environment.

Premiership Touch Rugby is a partnership between Premier Rugby Ltd, the Guinness Premiership Clubs, the RFU, and participating clubs who act as venues for the leagues.

Premiership Touch Rugby and the clubs work together to provide a fun social activity during the traditionally quiet summer months at rugby clubs around England Warriors Sixways Stadium and Droitwich RUFC will be this years venues in the region before a planned growth in coming years.

Premier Rugby Ltd Community Manager Wayne Morris said: “The Pilot leagues last year provided a great base to launch the expanded 2008 programme with new venues and partnerships with the RFU and participating clubs, allowing for more teams and players to take part.”

Warriors led the way along with Newcastle Falcons last year and aim to grow the participation from last years 250 rugby revellers to in excess of 300.
