Minister saddles up for charity event

A local Minister is gearing for a charity challenge starting from Worcester Warriors that will see him swap Westminster for the saddle to help raise funds for special causes.

Lord Digby Jones, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, will be taking part in a charity bike ride with over 20 fellow cyclists from Sixways Stadium to Welford Road, home of Leicester Tigers, on Friday, June 13.

The event – dubbed “END2END – The Sequel: the saddle fights back!” – is being held in aid of The Matt Hampson Trust, the registered charity SpecialEffect, which has Matt Hampson as its Patron, and The Dan James Trust.

The ride is to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Lord Digby’s epic bike journey from John O’Groats to Lands End, which he completed on 13 June, 1998.

Lord Digby Jones said: “I am thrilled that people from so many different walks of life are coming together in the name of helping such a fabulous bloke.

“It will be 10 years to the day since I finished the “END2END” ride at Lands End, after 14 days in the saddle and I cannot think of a better way of commemorating the date than mixing exercise with business and rugby so everyone benefits.”

The charity event will start when Worcester Warriors host a special Business Breakfast, sponsored by Richardsons Capital LLP, at Sixways Stadium. Lord Digby Jones will be speaking and taking questions at the breakfast which will also be attended by local businesses.

The cyclists will then take to the road for the 69 mile journey to Welford Road with a fun evening to follow, including dinner in the European Suite. Lord Digby Jones will also be speaking and taking questions during dinner and Beth Dunn and Sara Weaver will be providing musical entertainment during the evening.

The Business Breakfast at Sixways Stadium is just £20 per person. For more details call the sales team on 01905 459183.
