Warriors in the Community broaden horizons

Warriors in the Community is the department based at Sixways Stadium which plays a vital role in the development of rugby, health, education and the Warriors brand – and now you could be part of the team!

The department, which has been in operation since 2003, works with all levels of ability from beginners to budding professionals, inclusive groups with children with severe learning difficulties and with the next generation of Warrior stars.

Warriors have grown a strong reputation across the region delivering rugby activities in schools through the excellent work of Simon Lane, Steve Joslin and the bank of coaches who work on behalf of the club.

This commitment was rewarded in May when the departments scooped the prestigious English Federation of Disability Sport npower Partnership Award.

Due to the continued success of the Warriors Study Centre and Playing for Success Programme, led by Centre Manager Glynn Lodge, Warriors and the Study Centre have appointed Dave Rogers as Education Programme Coordinator.

His role takes the excellent model of themed education with sport out into schools across Worcestershire. Dave is currently running a pilot project across six Worcestershire schools prior to a full roll out in 2008/09.

The appointment of Dave Rogers compliments the existing rugby focused staff and will give the club a new edge in its commitment to the region.

Now the department is growing again with the hunt for a new Warriors Community Rugby Officer (16+) launched this week. This will enhance the existing community team at Warriors.

The 16+ Officer, developed as a direct result of continued partnership work with the RFU and the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Partnership, will focus on engaging more people into the game at the over sixteen level.

This post, which is unique in its kind, will build upon the ‘Go Play Rugby Campaign’ and the continued work of Warriors at developing the next generation of players, volunteers and coaches into the game.
