Fly half Matthew Jones admits he is relishing the chance to return to former club Ospreys on Sunday in the EDF Energy Cup on Sunday (kick-off 3.05pm) – but has vowed the only glory he is interested in is a collective one for Worcester Warriors.
Jones made his name at the Welsh region and earned an international cap before a knee injury saw him fall of the radar in his homeland.
After two years battling back from injury and spells in National One, Jones has returned to prominence at Sixways Stadium and shone in the early stages of this season.
Now he makes a return to where it all began but insist he is not after personal glory but a win for Warriors that would take them one step closer to the knock out stages.
To go back to Swansea will be a special moment for me but people talk about it being a big game just for me, I just see it as a big game for the whole team that could settle how the group goes,” he said.
“It is our one away game in the group stages and if we can get a win and then get Harlequins back here in the last game, with the home support behind us, than we can really go forward and then the competition is anybodies.
“It was a frustrating time after my injury, I was disappointed to be out and it was a long road back and a lot of work to get back in and not to get the chance was a shame.
“If you get injuries if gives the opportunity to somebody else and James Hook came along and took it with both hands and has not looked back. But I still think I have got a lot to offer and I plan to show that.
Jones admits Warriors will need to be on top form to match a star-studded Ospreys teams but insists his team-mates should have plenty of belief in their own ability after two impressive performances in Europe.
“Across the park they (Ospreys) have total class and international stars, but we have not got to be overawed by the task ahead of us,” he said.
“We just have to make sure that across the pitch we take the game to them like teams have done against them recently.
“One moment of magic could set us going and we have all got to make sure we hit the heights after what happened at Sixways last season.”
