Prop Black loaned out to Otley

Worcester Warriors have today confirmed that they have agreed to loan out front row Callum Black to National Division One side Otley.

Black, a graduate of the Warriors Academy set-up, made his first team debut against Newport Gwent Dragons at the end of 2005.

The 22-year-old prop has made 11 first team appearances for Warriors and has featured twice off the bench in the Guinness Premiership against Bristol Rugby and Saracens.

Black, who is an Irish Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 international, was educated at Colston’s School in Bristol before he was recruited to Hartpury College by current Warriors Academy Manager Andrew Stanley.

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock believes Black will benefit from his time at Cross Green.

“Given the lack of A team rugby during the next two months we have revised our performance strategies for certain individuals and we feel that one or two players would benefit from some time out on loan,” said Ruddock.

“In that regard, Callum is about to embark on a loan period with Otley. We believe this will be beneficial for his development in the same way it has benefitted players such as Miles Benjamin, Matt Mullan, James Collins and Matt Cox in the past.”

Warriors will have the option to recall Black at any time during the loan period.
