Warriors sign Hickey on loan

Worcester Warriors have today confirmed that they have signed London Irish back Eoghan Hickey on a six-week loan deal – with Loki Crichton ruled out through injury.

Hickey, a talented all-round athlete with good skills, is a prodigious kicker off both feet and can play anywhere in the back line.

Dublin born Hickey, 27, joined London Irish from Munster in 2007 and made 14 league appearances for the Exiles and scored 70 points in his first season.

The fly half/full back goes straight into contention for the European Challenge Cup game with Bourgoin on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

“We have had an unusual amount of injuries in the backs and Loki Crichton went down this week and faces five or six weeks out with a heel injury,” said Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock.

“That made our mind up that we needed someone to come in and help on loan and we are delighted to announce that Eoghan is joining us on loan.

“He is a proven Guinness Premiership player who has played a number of Heineken Cup games, played for Munster and Leinster, for Ireland A and also a very successful London Irish team.

“We have managed to get his registration organised in time with the RFU and ERC so he will figure in the 22 for the weekend game.”
