Warriors Tag Festival Success

It was a case of ‘A is ok’ as Alvechurch and Aston Fields emerged after a series of tough matches to qualify for the final in the recent EDF Energy heat at Bromsgrove RFC. The final will be played at half time during the Warriors home European Challenge Cup match versus Italian side Petrarca Rugby on January 24.

Alvechurch qualified for the finals in impressive style winning all their four matches scoring 24 tries in the progress. Aston Fields, despite losing their first game, recorded victories over Holy Trinity, Catshill and Parkside to join Alvechurch in the eagerly awaited final.

At the same time as the EDF Energy festival, The Wooden Spoon Festival was taking place on adjacent pitches. This turned out to be a closer affair as Alvechurch and Holy Trinity were locked together in second place and had scored the same number of tries each. Holy Trinity took the place by virtue of the fact that they had conceded less tries than Alvechurch. However neither of these teams could compete with Aston Fields who went through the group undefeated recording victories over Catshill 3-2, Holy Trinity 5-4, Parkside 8-4 and Alvechurch 7-5.

After the matches Welsh international and Warriors fly half Matthew Jones popped in to answer some questions from the children, offer some tips and make the presentations.

The EDF Energy and Wooden Spoon programmess now move on to Redditch and East Shropshire in the New Year.
