Loan star Hickey returns to Irish

Worcester Warriors have confirmed that fly half Eoghan Hickey has returned to London Irish after a successful loan period at Sixways Stadium.

Hickey joined Mike Ruddock’s men in mid-December after a series of injuries to key performers at Warriors.

The 27-year-old played in three games for Warriors and scored 25 points as the club remained undefeated during his loan spell.

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock said: “Eoghan Hickey has returned today to London Irish and we would like to thank him for his positive contribution to the Warriors over the last six weeks or so.

“He is a good man and a very good rugby player. He had fitted in nicely with the group and his efforts have been well received.

“We would also like to thank London Irish for their co-operation in assisting us during a quite unique injury crisis to the back line. We also really appreciate, in particular, the co-operation of Toby Booth, their head coach.

“Thankfully Loki Crichton is now fit and has dropped back into full training. We also have Joe Carlisle who is fit and raring to go after some game time at fly half against Bucuresti Oaks in the European Challenge Cup.”

Meanwhile, Ruddock has reported more positive news over wing Marcel Garvey as the club prepare for medical results on Chris Pennell.

Pennell was forced off against Bucuresti Oaks in the second half and will undergone a scan on Monday for the full diagnosis on a knee injury.

“Marcel Garvey has returned to full training and dropped back into rugby during the week which is fantastic news, it is great to see him back in the mix,” said Ruddock.

“Hopefully he will now provide some options and cover in the worst case scenario if Chris Pennell does need some time off.

“Unfortunately Marcel was deregistered for Europe as initially it was felt his injury would be long-term and that allowed us to bring in Eoghan Hickey.

“That means Marcel won’t be able to feature for us against Petrarca Rugby this weekend but he should be available for the Sale Sharks match.”
