Warriors to consider loan move

Mike Ruddock has revealed he will consider bringing in another loan signing after Chris Pennell was ruled out for the season – but Marcel Garvey will not been loaned out this week to get game time.

Warriors have been dealt a blow with the news that left leg ACL victim Pennell will not play any more part in the current campaign.

Director of Rugby Ruddock insists his squad is good enough to cope with the loss but has added that he will not rule out another loan move after Eoghan Hickey’s successful spell recently.

“We won’t rule out loan signings, I am looking at options,” said Ruddock.

“It was great to see Marcel Garvey given the all clear to start training last Friday and before Chris Pennell got injured we didn’t envisage going out for another loan player.

“I can’t rule that out now with this pool match to play against Petrarca Rugby and hopefully a semi-final and final to follow plus 12 league games.

“I have put a few phone calls in to see if players are possibly available on loan. The early indications are that there are some options.

“But it will come down to a number of things. We permission from the potential loan club and then the player will need to want to come and give it a go with us. We also need to look at the figures and the finances.

“We are seeing what the options are and we will now park it until next week after the Petrarca game and hope we don’t pick anymore injuries up.

“At the moment, if everyone stays fit, there is no need to panic. But we will carry on looking in case of problems.”

Wing wonder Garvey has now returned to full training as he steps up his recovery after a hip injury and Ruddock is keen to look after the speedster ahead of a return to league action.

“I was considering loaning Marcel out for one weekend to get 20 minutes off the bench,” he said.

“But once Chris Pennell got injured I really didn’t want to put him out there and at risk when it looks like he will be there or thereabouts for the next league game.

“I need to get him in training, get him used to contact with the shields and get his timings back for our plays.”
