Wood returns but Cox ruled out

Mike Ruddock has revealed Marcel Garvey and Tom Wood could feature against Sale Sharks on Saturday – but flanker Matt Cox will miss the game after fracturing his jaw.

Cox suffered the injury during the European Challenge Cup clash with Petrarca Rugby and is now set to miss between four to five weeks of rugby.

However, Director of Rugby Ruddock is confident the injury crisis that has hit the club is now beginning to improve.

“On the majority it is looking a little bit brighter,” he said. “Those postponements were frustrating but it has allowed us to get some guys back fit and available.

“The European games have allowed us to mix our combinations and get players like Hal Luscombe integrated.

“There is a far chance that Tom Wood will sneak in onto the bench on Saturday. He has trained really well.

“Marcel Garvey has also performed really well, to the extent that he will be in the panel this weekend. I just need to review our training as to whether he starts or he goes on the bench. He will definitely be in the 22.

“With him being back I won’t be looking to go out into the market place for a loan player. However, I will carry on doing some research work because I want to know what my options are should anything happen.

“On top of that, Miles Benjamin is back jogging which is great news, but it could be another three weeks before he is back fully integrated into training.

“Matthew Jones is also back jogging and hopefully he will come through the rest of this week and next week will be able to drop in.”
