Back row Cox excited by big future

Back row ace Matt Cox has revealed how the exciting vision for the future at Worcester Warriors made his decision to sign a new deal at Sixways Stadium a simple one.

England Sevens star Cox has today put pen to paper on a two-year contract that will extend his stay at a club he has been connected with since he was 15-years-old.

The 21-year-old, currently recovering from shoulder surgery, has already made 15 senior appearances for Warriors and is tipped for a bright future by Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock.

And Cox admits the club’s thriving policy of developing home-grown talent and ambition for the coming years was the driving force behind him signing a new contract.

“I’m really happy to have signed the two-year deal and can now really look forward to the future and being a part of a successful period for Worcester Warriors,” said Cox.

“The club is really developing well and this season we still have so much to play for, with the European Challenge Cup semi-final coming up this weekend.

“It is an exciting time and I’m part of a group of young players that have been together for a number of years and come through the ranks as one. We have all pledged our futures and want to be part of the club moving forward.

“Mike Ruddock and Cecil Duckworth have both spoken of their desire to create the Warriors Way and develop home-grown players and bring them into the first team.

“As a young player you know you can improve your game here and will be given a chance to play if you are good enough, more than other club’s that I have friends at.

“Now I’m just really looking forward to next season. My shoulder is ahead of schedule, but there is no rush. I want to get it right and be back for pre-season to really stake my claim for a place.”
