Windo and Fortey set for charity match

Former Guinness Premiership front row duo Tony Windo and Lee Fortey – plus a number of past greats – will be in action for the Worcester Warriors staff team in a charity game against Worcestershire Teachers at Sixways Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday (kick-off 7pm).

The game is taking place at the home of Worcester Warriors in aid of Matt Hampson, a young Leicester and England U21 player who has been left paralyzed as the result of a training ground scrum accident, and Wooden Spoon.

The game will also feature comebacks from past Sixways legends such as like Nick Baxter, Nick Tisdale and Steve Lloyd, as well as appearances from staff from the 1st XV conditioning department, academy, community, conference and banqueting teams and many more areas of the club’s backroom staff.

“We are urging as many people as possible to come down and show their support for both teams,” said Simon Lane, Warriors Community Rugby Officer.

“The tickets are only £3 but everybody who turns up is making a difference. Matt has suffered every rugby player’s worst nightmare being paralyzed from the neck down and unable to breathe unaided.

“But he has shown amazing character throughout and he is an incredible inspiration. It is a very worthwhile cause and one that should be supported by every rugby player and fan.

“It’s been a real club effort organising the event and I know the players are excited about watching the game and our Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock has been forthcoming with plenty of wise words to ensure we are prepared tactically.”

Fans are advised that entry to the game, that will officiated by Guinness Premiership referee Paul Dix, is £3 for adults and children. Children under three-years-old go free.
