Warriors join Walk4Matt fundraiser

Worcester Warriors’ Community team has today embarked on Walk4Matt09 – a 110-mile walk from the birthplace of our great game, Rugby, to Twickenham – that has been organised by the Matt Hampson Trust to raise vital funds.

The Warriors team and a number of other walkers are due to arrive at RFU headquarters on Saturday, May 16 to coincide with the Guinness Premiership Final, with all participants walking on the pitch before the game.

The walk, which is being undertaken by all 12 Guinness Premiership clubs, will follow the path of the Grand Union Canal and take eight days.

On each leg a number of fundraising events will be organised, using canal-side pubs, adjacent rugby clubs or sporting clubs.

All money raised will be split three ways – a third will go to the Matt Hampson Trust Fund, a third to Special Effect, of which Matt is a patron and a third to 12 charities nominated by the clubs taking part.

Matt Hampson, a young Leicester and England U21 prop who suffered a broken neck in a training ground scrum accident and was left paralyzed from the neck down.

Worcester prop Chris Horsman, Lawrence Dallaglio, Graham Rowntree, Will Greenwood, Jason Leonard, Bill Beaumont and Rory Underwood are among the host of rugby and non rugby stars taking part on the walk to support the Matt Hampson Trust.
