Mike Ruddock has vowed not to rush into bringing any new faces to Worcester Warriors after centre Hal Luscombe announced his retirement from professional rugby.
Former Wales international Luscombe has left Sixways Stadium with immediate effect to pursue different ambitions.
Director of Rugby Ruddock has now turned his attention to possible new recruitment – but insists he will only bring the right type of player and person into the Warriors squad.
“I will not be rushing in to the recruitment of a new centre at this moment in time as the emergence of Alex Grove, combined with the quality of Dale Rasmussen and Sam Tuitupou in particular, gives me a huge amount of front line cover,” he said.
“There is the potential that Rico Gear and Chris Pennell could play at 13 as and when required. As well as that we have the huge potential of Greg King who showed up particularly well at the end of last season.
“It’s important that if we do go into the market we get the right fit as well as the right player.
“I will consider all the options very carefully before deciding whether to commit to another player in this position. Quite possibly any decision might not be made until after our pre-season friendly games.”
Ruddock has already invited centre duo George Dixon and Ed Binham to trail with the club and plans to run the role over them and other players in the coming weeks.
“I’ve invited George Dixon, the ex-Coventry player, to trial with us over an extended period to include our pre-season games. He is a big strong player at 6ft 3in and 96kg with a very good reputation in National Division One.
“Ed Binham is a player I coached many years ago at Ebbw Vale and has had spells at Leicester, Ebbw Vale, Bedford and Plymouth Albion
“He has just returned from playing in France for a number of years and has asked to come and train with us. We’ll see how they all go in the pre-season schedule of games.”
