Boss delight at polished young guns

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock paid tribute to the young stars at Worcester Warriors as they turned on a great show of running rugby in a 71-3 victory over Droitwich in pre-season.

Warriors selected a side packed full of Academy talent for the final pre-season fixture and the crowd at Droitwich were treated to 11 tries as Worcester produced a fine display of attacking play.

“I was absolutely delighted by a very polished and professional show from a group of very young players,” said Ruddock.

“We had some great continuity and some great tempo in our game, we scored some great tries.

“I have to pay tribute to the referee, he allowed us to play with tempo and width. I thought the referee controlled the tackle area particularly well and I was impressed by his performance.

“I’ve been frustrated in pre-season by slow ball in the tackle area so to see him making the tackler roll away allowed us to play some great rugby.

“Overall we looked slick and extremely cohesive, despite some new combinations.

“It was great to see and the game allowed our young guys to get some vital experience before the A League programme commences.

“I would like to say we are indebted to Droitwich for assisting us with training pitches during last season and hopefully we can continue to build on this strong relationship with them in the future.”
