Windo expects titanic double header

Worcester coach Tony Windo believes the Warriors pack is ready for a titanic double header in the coming weeks in the Guinness Premiership.

Worcester welcome Sale Sharks to Sixways Stadium on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) before travelling to Welford Road the following weekend to tackle champions Leicester Tigers.

The Worcester forwards have impressed in the opening weeks of campaign and adapted well to the new laws that have been introduced to the league.

However, Windo admits a big test will come in the next fortnight as they prepare to welcome Sale first up.

“Sale Sharks have got some very good forwards,” said Windo, who was a legendary prop for Warriors before joining the backroom staff.

“They have some big men in Andrew Sheridan and Eifion Roberts. Dean Schofield I rate very highly as a second row.

“They have some great individuals in a very good team. It will be a good test for us with Sale this week and then Leicester the week after, we have a big fortnight ahead of us as a set of forwards.

“It is something I am looking forward to and I’m sure the players are too, we have to rise to the challenge and give a good account of ourselves.”

Windo is keen for Warriors to build on the win over Leeds when Warriors face Sale on Saturday.

And he admits building on home form – with four wins out of five in all competitions stretching back to last season – is crucial.

“Going back to the days when I played, we got ourselves a bit of a reputation of being a very difficult team to beat at Sixways,” he added.

“What we are looking at now is being impossible to beat at home. We have tagged it a Fortress Sixways and the support have a big part to play in that.

“We have a fantastic support here and if we can make it a difficult place to play and come then it will put us in a great position to push up the league.”
