Warriors give it some welly for wildlife

Players and staff at Worcester Warriors have given it some welly and joined forces with Worcestershire Wildlife Trust to help raise funds for the county’s wildlife.

Wear your Wellies for Wildlife Week takes place from Monday and Worcestershire residents, employees and schoolchildren are being invited to don their wellies to help raise money for wildlife. Anyone can take part in Wellies for Wildlife Week, with events from sponsored welly wearing to welly wanging competitions.

The players at Warriors showed their support as front row stars Adam Black and Chris Fortey put on their wellies this week at Sixways Stadium.

Becky Bradshaw-King, fundraising assistant for Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, said: “It has been a really fun way of helping raise much needed money to help protect our county’s wildlife for the future. All proceeds raised will go towards our work to conserve and restore wildlife and wild places.

“We’re so pleased that our close neighbours Worcester Warriors took part in this campaign – their support really means a lot to us and we are delighted that they have agreed to get involved. Not only did Warriors agree to swap their rugby boots for wellies in support of Worcestershire wildlife, but they also generously donated a family ticket to one of their home games. Details on how you can win this fantastic prize will be available on our website shortly. Any funds raised will go towards protecting the county’s wildlife.”

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust is the foremost organisation actively restoring and protecting wildlife and wild places in Worcestershire. The Trust owns and manages over 70 nature reserves throughout the county and works with local community members and other organisations to encourage a landscape for people and wildlife. It has over 18,500 members and around 500 volunteers who support the Trust by active involvement in its conservation, education, fundraising and administration work.
