Ruddock predicts open Scarlets clash

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock is expecting an open and expansive game when he takes his Worcester Warriors to face Scarlets in the LV= Cup on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Worcester opened the cup campaign with an impressive bonus point win over Newcastle Falcons and now tackle a Welsh team who started with a draw against Harlequins.

Ruddock admits he is a fan of the way in which Scarlets play the game and acknowledges the England versus Wales cup game to a tasty affair.

“I was very impressed with Scarlets when I watched them play against Harlequins. They looked very dangerous and exciting with the ball in hand,” he said.

“They traditionally play that way, they look to get the ball wide and have some good footballers in the backs and some very useful players coming through in the forwards.

“It will be a tough game. They are a very proud bunch down in Llanelli and it’s an English team against a Welsh team so it will still be tasty, full on and very physical.

“It’s good for our players to see a different culture and game. They will want to move that ball around, get wide early and offload and run into spaces.

“Those are the sort of things that I have been banging the drum about here for the last couple of years.

“The game on Monday, with our Academy team, you saw a lot of those things coming through. The youngsters coming through our system think that way and we think, over time, that will be something that will be on show at Warriors.”
