Back row Wood to leave Warriors

Worcester Warriors have announced that Tom Wood will leave Sixways Stadium at the end of this season.

Coventry-born flanker Wood has made 56 appearances for the Warriors and scored 20 points during his time at the club.

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock said: “We’re disappointed that Tom Wood will leave the club at the end of the season.

“He has come through the Warriors Academy system and progressed to England Saxons squad level in a short space of time with the guidance of our coaching team.

“I’m sure that Tom would be the first to thank Andrew Stanley, Gary Meechan (Academy coaches) and our senior coaches for the excellent assistance they have provided during his time at the club.

“Ultimately we still have the coaching structure in place to nurture and develop other future back row stars such as Matt Cox, James Collins, Jake Abbott, James Freeman and Matt Kvesic.

“Tom will continue to represent the Warriors throughout the course of this season and I know he will do this in a very professional manner as he always conducts himself in the right way on and off the field.

“As one door closes another one opens and the recruitment of Neil Best is a significant signing for us that will bring a wealth of experience at international and European level to our back row.”
