Worcester skipper Pat Sanderson insists gaining a big league win and not hitting a historic milestone is the only thing on his mind when Warriors face Bath Rugby on Saturday at The Rec (kick-off 2.15pm).
Sanderson is set to become only the seventh player in the history of the Guinness Premiership to hit the double ton and follow in the footsteps of Sixways hooker Chris Fortey who achieved the landmark earlier this season.
The current top appearance charts features Simon Shaw (222) at the top with Hugh Vyvyan (214), Kris Chesney (209), Fortey (204) and Mark Regan (201) behind him.
Former Worcester scrum half Andy Gomarsall is also set to hit the landmark just ahead of Sanderson when Leeds Carnegie face Sale Sharks on Friday night.
However, Sanderson insists becoming a member of the elite club will mean nothing without an away win for Warriors in the league.
“I haven’t even given the milestone a second thought – it is all about winning at the weekend. It is absolutely crucial for us,” he said.
“It was hard with the come down last weekend from going to Wembley and playing so well and not getting a result. We have to pick ourselves up and go again.
“This one feels very big for us. It’s going to be a tough game as Bath have hit some form so we are going to have to work hard.
“I do remember starting in the league, it was difficult and a huge step up,” he added. “But like anything, you adjust pretty quickly when you have got to.
“There have been some very memorable games and if we get the win on Saturday it will go down as a good day in my career.
“We have played well the last few weeks and Bath are undoubtedly a good side, but frankly every team in this league is hard to face.
“They are a testing side, they like to play rugby and in that they give you opportunities. But they also create them and it is going to be a big test for us in defence, they play with width and have a real fluent game so it is crucial that we break that down.”
