Warriors sign proven winner Balding

Worcester Warriors are pleased to announce the signing of Adam Balding from Newcastle Falcons on a two-year deal.

The hugely experienced Coventry-born forward, who has represented England at both Saxons and Sevens level, will join up with Warriors this summer and remain at the club until at least 2012.

Balding started his career at Leicester and went on to make 66 appearances for the club, tasting four Premiership titles and European glory with two Heineken Cup wins with the Tigers.

The 30-year-old moved to Gloucester in 2004, where he became club captain with the Cherry and Whites.

The hard running forward, who has also had a spell at Leeds Carnegie, moved to the north east in 2008 and has made a big impact with his abrasive edge at Kingston Park.

“I’m very pleased that we’ve further strengthened our back row pool with the signing of Adam Balding,” said Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock.

“Adam is a former Gloucester captain and a very highly respected figure in Guinness Premiership rugby.

“He’s an intelligent player who carries the ball very strongly, he will add balance and complement our existing back row.

“Adam has been a league winner on four occasions and has also been part of Heineken Cup winning squads. He is a proven winner and we are excited about his contribution at Warriors.”

Balding revealed he delight at the move back to the Midlands and the chance to become part of the Worcester squad.

“I’ve played at Sixways before and so know it is a very passionate place to play with fantastic fans. I’m now looking forward to becoming part of the club with a great set-up and players around me,” he said.

“There is a real team ethic at Warriors and ambition to build something special in the coming years. I want to be able to play a part in taking the club forward and realising those ambitions.

“I still have a real burning desire to succeed in the game and know I can achieve that with Warriors.

“I have really enjoyed myself at Newcastle Falcons. The north east is a fantastic place to play and we have a great set of supporters. I’ve always given everything for the club and will continue to do so until the end of this season.”
