Boss backs mental strength of squad

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock is confident his Worcester Warriors boast the mental strength and toughness to handle the intense pressure that surrounds the must-win clash with Leeds Carnegie on Sunday (kick-off 3pm).

Warriors make the journey to Headingley knowing they must claim a Guinness Premiership victory.

Ahead of the crucial clash, Ruddock has revealed the mood within the Sixways camp is composed and crammed full of team spirit.

“We know the score and it is pretty simple. We have been there before. It is win or we face the drop,” he said.

“It is something we have responded to in the past in previous years, we have a lot of players in this team that have shown mental strength in those situations.

“There is good morale and good team spirit, anyone who saw the Wasps game and the way we fought back could see the team spirit shining through.

“We are aware that external opinion is pretty much loaded against us, but at the end of the day it is about us and that is my message to the team.

“It is about how we react as a group and for each other, I am expecting us to react positively and I am expecting us to react in all the right way and come out on top with a victory.”
