Alvechurch claim npower rugby crown

The npower TAG Rugby Programme reached a thrilling finale as Alvechurch CE Middle School and Oldbury Park Primary School were invited to play at half-time during the Guinness Premiership match between the Warriors and Gloucester on Saturday (May 8).

The two schools qualified for the final after coming through a tough tournament played in Warndon the week before.

Oldbury Park topped their group beating Ashton Under Hill First School and Harvington CE First School and drawing with Northwick Manor Primary School. Alvechurch went through to the knock-out stages with a 100 percent record from their group games

In the quarter finals, Oldbury Park overcame Perdiswell Primary School in a titanic struggle winning 7-6 while Alvechurch had an equally tough match against previously unbeaten Lyppard Grange Primary School before emerging victorious.

The pair then came through difficult semi-finals at the expense of Kempsey Primary School and Coppice Primary School respectively before Alvechurch were crowned the winners on the stadium pitch with a 5-3 victory.

The two schools were joined on the pitch by Warriors Academy product Jake Abbott who congratulated both teams and presented the trophy to the winning Alvechurch team.
