Arscott calls for opening day platform

Full back Tom Arscott has called on the Warriors to put down a marker for the rest of the season on the opening day against Birmingham & Solihull tomorrow (kick-off 3pm).

Arscott will make his league debut for Warriors in the home fixture as Richard Hill enjoys his first Championship game in charge at Sixways Stadium.

The 22-year-old, a recruit from Bristol during the close season, is keen to show supporters what he is capable of after an impressive show on his competitive debut against Stourbridge Saxons.

But the flying back acknowledges that the road ahead for Worcester will be full of obstacles and the team must look to improve throughout the campaign to hit the play-offs in peak condition.

“Every club we go to and every club that comes to Sixways will give us a tough battle. It is going to be a fight and there will be no easy games – we have got to work for every win,” said Arscott, who is the main player feature in The Warrior matchday programme on Saturday. Programmes are available around the stadium complex for £3.

“I find that out last season with Bristol in a big way. Nothing is ever easy in this league so we want to come away with a big performance and win when we face Bees.

“It’s important for us to show the rest of the league what we are about on day one. We want to give ourselves a platform to kick on from. Obviously we want to keep improving throughout the year, there will always be things to add and improve.

“But you have got to start somewhere so hopefully we will start with a real bang at home and then kick on from them.”
