Newport cup clash moved forward

Worcester Warriors can today confirm that the British & Irish Cup game with Newport, originally scheduled to take place at Sixways Stadium on Sunday, December 12, has now been moved forward 24 hours.

The game will now take place at the home of the Warriors on Saturday, December 11 and kick-off at 1pm as it is screened live on Welsh broadcasters S4C.

S4C will have live coverage of two B&I Cup first and second round matches with the London Welsh versus Swansea match also being shown.

Whilst the RFU Championship leaders Worcester will be boosted by home support at Sixways, Newport’s experience in the British & Irish Cup will no doubt prove useful. The Black and Ambers have already been in British & Irish Cup action this season having played their rescheduled Round 5 fixture against Leinster last weekend losing 28-33.

British & Irish Cup Tournament Director Terry Burwell commented on the increased exposure of the British & Irish Cup, saying: “The live broadcast of both these pool stage fixtures on S4C is fantastic news for the competition.

“The British & Irish Cup provides quality cross-border rugby, climaxing last year in an enthralling victory for Cornish Pirates over Munster, which was shown live on Sky Sports HD. The impressive standard of rugby across the competition will no doubt make for entertaining viewing for the S4C audiences.”
