Crockett and Rawlinson get call up

Richard Hill has revealed that centre Alex Crockett and lock Greg Rawlinson are set to face Nottingham Rugby in the RFU Championship this Friday at Sixways Stadium (kick-off 8pm) as he starts to finalise his team line-up.

Head Coach Hill will call upon Crockett, after he recovered from an ankle injury, while Rawlinson gets a starting spot in place of Craig Gillies after impressing off the bench in recent weeks.

Hill is determined his team will produce a positive response after the disappointing manner of defeat to Cornish Pirates last time out.

However, he admitted Nottingham would prove a stern test with the Green and Whites having racked up 25 points after nine games, including four classy five-point victories which have come from both home and away results.

He said: “I will use virtually the same 22 and have already made the decision to bring Alex Crockett off the bench. Andy Short has done really well, but Alex was the man in possession until he picked up an ankle injury.

“Greg Rawlinson will get a start too and deserves that. He will replace Craig Gillies in the line-up.

“I am not going to move the 22 around too much,” he added. “The other lads played at Newcastle on Monday night and we have another A team game against Leeds here at Sixways this coming Monday.

“I will stick to the plan for the next two weeks to keep roughly the same 22 and after the London Welsh game then a lot of the players that have been desperate to come into the first team will get an opportunity.

“People like Adam Black, Chris Fortey, Willie Walker, Will Bowley, Oriol Ripol and Pat Sanderson will deserve a go.

“Nottingham are another big challenge for us in a difficult period. They score a lot of points and are a dangerous side, they don’t often kick it off the field so we won’t get many lineouts.

“Like Wasps used to play, they often kick the ball down field and then kick chase to snuff out any counter attacks. The ball will be in play a lot and it will be a busy afternoon for our back three. Out counter attack will be need to be very exciting and accurate.”
