Sanderson – Great to be back playing

Pat Sanderson admitted it was great to be back after his try scoring return to the Worcester line-up – and now he has set his sights on keeping his place to keep pushing Warriors forward.

Flanker Sanderson scored a fourth minute try to help Worcester secure a tense 33-29 victory in the capital against high flying London Welsh.

The former England international impressed throughout in only his second start of the campaign and now wants to keep his spot as Warriors head into the second half of the campaign.

“I’ve hated watching so I’m over the moon to be back,” said Sanderson. “I’m the worst spectator in the world so it’s nice to be back out there in front of our fans and putting my shoulder into tackles again. Playing rugby is what I love doing.

“We’re halfway through the season and we’re not happy with where we are,” he added. “We know we have got an awful lot more to give. But the game with London Welsh showed some progress and that is what we need to do.

“The one thing that we have got right this season already is that we are a tight team. We are driven and energetic, we are putting a lot into it. We are not always getting it right – sometimes we don’t get our systems down – but it is slowly coming.

“There was no panic, we are getting much more comfortable with each other and understand how the new boys play. When we get it right it is very potent.

“We were very in control of the game with London Welsh for the most part. The score line maybe does not suggest that, we but we felt in control and perhaps that is something we have not had every week – at Old Deer Park we felt it and that is pleasing.”
