Head Coach Richard Hill has ordered his Worcester Warriors to tighten up at home and play with the same levels of concentration and determination as they show away from Sixways.
Worcester entertain Plymouth Albion this Saturday in the RFU Championship (kick-off 3pm) with Hill admitting his team still need to raise standard despite an encouraging display at London Welsh.
And he revealed the statistics for home games that he wants resolved as he looks for his team to produce stronger defensive shows on home soil.
“We have to address our defence at home,” he said. “Out of the 19 tries we have conceded in 11 games, we have only conceded only five away from home. We have conceded 14 at Sixways and that is not right.
“Doncaster scored three, Rotherham scored three and Nottingham scored four. For some reason most of the tries we concede are here and we have got to stop that trend now.
“We have to keep it as tight as it is away from home. It doesn’t make sense and we need to turn that ratio around rapidly.
“What it does show is that extra concentration away from home, when we are up against it. When people talk about Bedford beating us away or London Welsh beating us we tend to be a lot sharper.
“Bedford did not score a try against us when they have been scoring for fun in other games. We can do it and have that same level of concentration and level of determination, not to allow sloppy tries in here.
“We could do better if you were doing a half term report of the season,” he added. “It is nice to have a little cushion at the top of the league, but one thing we must do, and that is the challenge for the squad, is look at the margins.
“The objective is to improve on what we did in each game against every team, now we have got used to knowing what teams are like, their strengths and weaknesses, we have got to plan accordingly and do better. We must better ourselves throughout the second half of the season.”
