Derby day clash moved to Tuesday

Worcester Warriors have today announced that the RFU Championship derby day clash with Moseley Rugby – scheduled to be played on Boxing Day – has now been moved back to Tuesday, December 28 (kick-off 3pm) due to adverse weather conditions.

Staff at Sixways have worked tirelessly throughout this week in an attempt to prepare the complex for a big crowd and our Christmas fixture and against our local Midland neighbours.

However, more heavy snow on Wednesday morning has left the pitch covered in ten inches of snow and so the decision has been – in consultation with Moseley Rugby and the RFU – to move the game back.

Charlie Little, General Manager at Warriors, said: “Worcester has received a heavy amount of snow overnight and that, in addition to the long range weather forecast, has created two key issues for us.

“Firstly, we believe now, with ten inches of snow on the pitch in places and from previous experience, it will take the best part of two days to clear the snow off the playing surface.

“The second key issue is the weather forecast. Working with various agencies, we are getting information that suggests temperatures could potentially fall as low as -13 at Sixways on the evening of Christmas Day. If we take the snow off prior to that we risk the pitch not being playable.

“Therefore the groundstaff can start to clear the snow from Boxing Day onwards as we aim to play on the Tuesday Bank Holiday. While we are disappointed we cannot play on Boxing Day, we believe by moving the game back two days we have the best change of staging our festive fixture and ensuring our fans enjoy some rugby this Christmas.”

Supporters are advised that all existing tickets will be valid for the re-arranged date. Further details are available from the Warriors Box Office on 01905 454183.

Car parking is also currently valid, but fans are asked to check www.warriors.co.uk on the week of the game as the situation will be reviewed due to conditions.
