England star Short signs Sixways deal

Worcester Warriors are delighted to announce that England Under-20 ace Andy Short has signed a new two-year deal to continue his outstanding progress at Sixways Stadium.

Warriors Academy graduate Short – who last week shone on international duty for England Under-20s scoring four tries against Italy Under-20s – has broken into the senior starting line-up at Warriors this campaign and excelled in league and cup action.

Short, who can play at centre or wing, has already played eight times for Warriors this season after making his RFU Championship debut off the bench against Bristol in October.

The 19-year-old made his first full league appearance a week later against Bedford Blues and has since scored tries against Newport and Leinster A in the British & Irish Cup.

Short was previously a student at Worcester Sixth Form College, as part of the Warriors’ Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) scheme, having attended Upton-on-Severn Primary and Hanley Castle Secondary School.

The talented back, who first played for Worcester under-nines and captained the club’s age group teams, has played for England at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 level.

“I want players at Warriors who are dedicated to the club and Andy has a superb attitude and desire to get better and have a big future at Sixways,” said Head Coach Richard Hill, who has already confirmed Short will start the league meeting with Birmingham & Solihull this Saturday.

“He is dedicated, professional and is very willing to learn. Andy is a pleasure to coach and hugely motivated to better himself. We have seen him develop this season and he fully deserves all the opportunities he has been given.

“We want to look after our own players who are coming through the system at Sixways. Players like Andy Short and Matt Kvesic, who are both playing England Under-20 rugby at the moment, will form the future of Worcester Warriors.”
