Warriors sign-up scrum half star Perry

Worcester Warriors have today announced the major signing of former England international scrum-half Shaun Perry.

Perry will join the Sixways club from French outfit CA Brive at the start of the 2011/12 campaign after agreeing an initial one-year deal with the option to extend further.

Vastly experienced star Perry has been capped 14 times for England, including featuring in the 2007 Rugby World Cup, and is a former England A captain.

Perry, 32, made his England international debut against New Zealand in November 2006 and scored a memorable breakaway try to mark his first ever appearance.

The Wolverhampton-born back began playing rugby in the junior ranks at Dudley Kingswinford where he played seven seasons before joining Coventry. He later moved to Bristol where he featured prominently between 2005 and 2009, under the guidance of current Worcester Head Coach Richard Hill.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Shaun Perry and look forward to welcoming him to the Warriors,” said Hill.

“Shaun’s arrival will give us a really good balance to our scrum-half options with his senior experience alongside young talents like Jonny Arr and Ollie Frost. He is a very good professional and has the experience to be a big asset to the squad.

“Shaun enjoyed a couple of seasons playing alongside Andy Goode at Brive and also for England, which is an advantage as they link-up well together.”
