Super Sunday – Kvesic on ‘special day’

Warriors back row star Matt Kvesic admits it would be a ‘special day’ in his exciting young career to run out at Sixways in an England shirt – and has appealed for fans to get right behind England Under-20s in their quest for 6 Nations glory this Sunday.

Kvesic has been one of the stars of the season for Warriors and grabbed another try in the derby day victory over Birmingham & Solihull with a performance that was hailed by Head Coach Richard Hill.

The 18-year-old will now turn his attention back to England Under-20 duty this weekend and the 6 Nations clash with France Under-20s at Sixways Stadium as part of Super Sunday.

The home of Worcester Warriors will see three international games in one day with England Women Under-20s (kick-off 11am), England Women (kick-off 1.05pm) and England Under-20s (kick-off 3.15pm) all in action.

Kvesic is now keen to continue the outstanding form that saw him named man-of-the-match in the last international with Italy – and joked that would also mean taking the headlines from team-mate and housemate Andy Short after his four-try burst!

“I love rugby and I can’t get enough of it at the moment so it has been brilliant. Fingers crossed I can play on Sunday at Sixways in an England shirt – that would be really special for me,” said Kvesic.

“I have had a really good few weeks away with England and got two very positive results over Wales and Italy.

“But I won’t take anything for granted and hopefully I can put a good week together for England in training and so enough to cement a place in that starting line-up.

“It would be brilliant to play for England on home soil and I hope a lot of fans come out to support what will be a big day for the club.

“Andy is loving all the headlines,” laughed Kvesic. “I live with him so all I hear is about is Short and Ashton scoring four tries.

“In fairness to him, he played really well against Italy and it was a good day – but I like to think it was a team effort and we gave him the opportunity to finish them off. But hopefully he can get four more in the game with France!”

Kvesic admits he also has one eye on the RFU Championship play-offs against Bristol Rugby, London Welsh and Nottingham Rugby and is keen to play as big a role as he did in the league victory over Bees.

“We were pleased to get a win over the local rivals and at the end of the day any victory is a positive. It is a hard place to come on a boggy pitch,” added Kvesic.

“Coming back and getting a win for Warriors over Bees is important for the club, winning is an attitude and a frame of mind and we wanted to go into the play-offs on the front foot.

“I have learnt that a lot this season alongside Shorty (Andy Short) and we are both really enjoying it.

“We have been playing well and hopefully we can start well against Bristol in the pool stages. We have to go in with confidence and take each game as it comes.

“We can’t be thinking about the semi-finals or finals – just focus on Bristol and getting it right on day one.”
