Boss wants wide boys to keep firing

Head Coach Richard Hill admitted he would be trying to ‘keep Miles angry and keep him scoring’ after watching hitman Miles Benjamin grab his third hat-trick of the season in the 40-23 victory over London Welsh.

Wing star Benjamin made it six tries in just two RFU Championship play-offs as his clinical treble helped guide Warriors to the top of Pool A.

Hill is now keen to keep his wide men Benjamin – 20 tries in 23 games – and Marcel Garvey – 18 tries in 24 games – firing on all cylinders as Warriors next make the trip to Nottingham on Friday night.

He said: “Miles scored some really good tries with some good build-up as backs and forwards combined.

“You need wingers to finish things off and Miles is in sparkling form at the moment, we need to keep Miles angry and keep him scoring!

“It was a great game of rugby and great spectacle,” added Hill. “I might make one or two changes now for Nottingham, but I don’t want to change it too much for this one.

“We really want to get these first four games done and won. If we go well, and Bristol do us a favour against London Welsh, it might put us in a good position to win the group.

“We will go flat out for Nottingham in these next two games to try and win them well. I will tweak it, but fortunately we have come through with no injuries and I want to keep this team together.”

Hill was also pleased to see Matt Mullan get 80 minutes on his first league start of the season at Sixways and praised the all-action display of Neil Best who again impressed in the pack.

“Matt Mullan was good and the forward pack really woke up in the second half and carried good ball to really contribute to the tries at the end,” he said.

“Neil gives us energy. If you are putting certain characteristics to certain people you say Aleki (Lutui) brings you carry, Craig (Gilles) brings you lineout ball and Tevita (Taumoepeau) locks your scrum.

“Besty brings aggression and energy to the side. He doesn’t like to be beaten and is a real winner – having him in the side you know he will go right to the bitter end.”
