Fortey urges team to grasp opportunity

Hooker Chris Fortey has called on the Warriors to grasp the unique opportunity to secure a final place in the RFU Championship when they face Bedford Blues – admitting Sunday’s showdown at Sixways will be one of the biggest games of his career (kick-off 12.15pm).

Veteran front rower Fortey has played in some huge fixtures during a glittering career for home town club Gloucester and Warriors.

But the all-action 35-year-old admits the magnitude of the semi-final with Bedford will eclipse many others and has urged the Warriors to revel in the pressure cooker environment backed by a vociferous crowd on home soil.

“We have had a good season and there is an air of anticipation about the place, probably because it is a semi-final,” said Fortey, who us featured in The Warrior match day programme along with Adam Black this weekend.

“These opportunities don’t come around very often in rugby or in life and you have to grasp them. To get to a final is great. We need to perform to get there and we have got to be confident with the squad we have got.

“This is huge and everything is riding on this as a one-off game. I have been to finals in the past, but this has a lot more riding on it than any other game. It is the ultimate final and this is the biggest must-win game I have ever been involved with so I’m sure we will do the job.”
